Default Cap or plug for transmission fill tube?

I've done my best to wander through past threads, but have not come up with any clear answer to my current question...so here it is.

My 2000 XKR has a fill tube to the MB transmission, as do all X-100s, I believe. I know there is no stock dipstick, but shouldn't there be a cap or plug to keep any moisture or other foreign elements out? Mine is open, uncapped. Seems not right.

Thanks.

as you suspect ... not right.

you can buy the part at any MB dealer cheaper than at Jaguar.

Do you mean a plug or a dipstick?

Guess I still could use a bit of help. Looking online, but I'm confused...not unusual . Since I don't know what I'm after even looks like, is it possible that someone could post a pic of this cap/plug?

And here's another thought now...might I be better off to go ahead and acquire the dipstick instead?

NOTE - The dipstick does not just fit in the hole and stay there. You leave the cap in to seal, but the stick is universal and won't sit there like a conventional dipstick and is just used during measuring.

Here's the cap and lock ($9 shipped):

Genuine Mercedes Sprinter Automatic Transmission Filler Cap Lock Clip | eBay

Here's the dipstick ($7 shipped):

1220mm 48" 140589152 Transmission Fluid Dipstick Tool for Mercedes Benz 722 6 | eBay

Great kit to buy, Febi OEM fluid with Pan gasket and filter ($95 shipped):

Connector to replace while you're in there since they often leak ($7 shipped):

Mercedes Automatic Transmission Plug Wire Harness Connector Adapter for 722 6xx | eBay

$116 to change the fluid. You can reuse the dipstick tool and lock on future jobs. Really reasonable. You likely don't have a torque converter drain plug, but that kit is so cheap for the good stuff, I'd buy it.

OK, the first link, for the tube plug, shows as "not compatible" with 2000 Jaguar XKR. So where does that leave me, please?

A number of parts that cross from other applications are shown as not compatible, just because the supplier does not know for sure. I'll see if I still have the shipping receipt for the ones I used.

You will be fine with a replacement cap for a mercedez 722.6 transmission, it's what you have in a XKR, the filler tube (at least diameter design) is the same, BE careful there is a O-ring, ensure the old one isn't lodged in the opening.

Ordered both tube plug and service dipstick. I'll report how they fit and function after they arrive and are tried.
