Question Carbon Canisters in 2001 XKR

I was under the car replacing the passenger side canister closed valve to solve my "unable to fill fuel tank" problem when I noticed a second carbon canister and valve on the drivers side next to the fuel tank. What is the function of the second canister and valve and since replacing the passenger side valve didn't fix the problem should I replace the drivers side valve also?

The JTIS section 303-13 has a good description of the full system. It also tels what to check if you can't fillup.

Avos is spot on - JTIS shows how it works.

Did a ton of research on this for another member, you might find it valuable.

Good luck.

Default Thanks

I've read through the suggested posts and they seem very useful, I will get right to applying them to my troubleshooting. I am moving to Oregon in two weeks and they won't let you pump your own gas there. I am worried that if I don't get this fixed it will cause major hassles.

Love me some government intervention. After all, people are always accidentally blowing up gas stations by using unapproved glass containers.

Welcome to the forum.

Default Fix for slow fueling?

Well I may have fixed the problem. After reading that there is a check valve at the entry point of the fueling tube into the tank I ran a coat hanger into the filler pipe until I hit an obstruction. I then pushed a harder and felt it pop open. I ran down to the gas station and it filled up with no problem. What do you think the chances are that it is fixed for good or will it keep re-occuring? If it does do I need to change the tank to resove it?

Good news, glad you were able to fill.

I am unable to comment, since I am unsure of how the valve works, or is constructed.

Given my lack of knowledge, the "pop" makes me wonder what happened.

Luck,
