My beloved Pacific Blue/Parchment vert is behaving badly in the head lamp area. My on side dip beam is not on. I have the odd blue and green headlamp lights on the panel illuminated simultaneously. The local Jag Dealer in the Tampa, Florida area tells me my woes cannot be cured with the exchange of a new Sylvania xenon bulb, since no power is getting to it because the ballast is out, and I cannot buy a ballast, I must purchase an entire headlamp assembly for which he would charge me $1,400.00 plus installation.


I love the car and will not part with it, but am reeling from what I can only imagine is a price of around$2,000 usd with labor for a problem most auto enthusiasts can solve with a picture of Ben Franklin, i.e. $100.


On line I have seen a company called Putco that claims to have xenons with their own ballast for the car, but am not familiar with them and know there are always quirks to the Jags. Other than rolling the dice with either of 2 parts cars in the area, one a 2002 and the other a 2000, what ideas does the membership of the forum have?


Is there an after market alternative for the ballast? The 2007 XKRs have a replaceable ballast. Would one of those work? Have you heard about any mods or alternates lights or conversions that can be used? I am just sure there would be a cheaper way to go, but maybe there isn't. In any case, I value the Forum as my court of last resort and the members have saved me thousands over the year.

If you would, please post some pics and a write-up of how the swap goes. I'm pretty sure I have this procedure lurking in my future, and for the life of me, I can't figure out "where" the ballasts would go.

I ordered a ballast per the white xkr guy's direction, and have 2 bulbs, one with and one without its own ballast. a DIS and a D2S.- Going to my friendly non-125$/hour car repair company. I'll let you know what happens.
