Default CATS Replace front shocks vs replacing lower shock bushings?

I took the XKR to an alignment shop because the steering wheel was not centered. The tech said the following: “sometime this year, you need to replace the lower shock bushings, the sway bar bushings and the sway bar link. I popped the hood and noticed, my shock mounts are starting to go as well. This is all for the front end.

So, if I go with the Welsh upgraded urethane shock mounts $149.95 for the pair, sway bar links from Rockauto $23.89 x 2 = $47.78, the Powerflex polyurethane sway bar bushings $51.99 for the pair. I’m in at $249.62 plus shipping. My bank account screams to go for the lower shock bushings, $22.40 x 2 = $44.80 via SNGBaratt, for a total of $294.52 plus shipping.

Whereas, if I go for the dampers instead, that would be $315.79 x 2 = $631.58, best price I have found so far for a grand total of $881.20 plus shipping charges. That’s in parts alone.

That’s a savings of $586.68 if I forego the dampers. The question is, will I regret saving myself that money? My current dampers are still in good condition. How long are they going to last considering my Jag has 66,000 miles, is 14 years old, and is only used as a weekend car?

I'd go for the links and bushes, they make a huge difference. Think You said dampened are good, do them another day.

if you get a kick out of quieter, firmer, tighter handling - I got much much bigger improvement with the links and bushes.

Shock bushing replacement used to be a regular topic on the forum a few years ago but recently more owners have opted to go straight for the full shock replacement. This is probably a consequence of deterioration in damping as the units age but also because it's easier to go for the complete unit switch rather than pressing out the old bush and pressing in the new one.

If you are happy with the damping, it makes sense to delay the extra $586.68 spend until necessary.
