Red face Center Console Arm Rest Lock Down!

Was putting the arm rest back together and must have put the release thingy in upside down (roundels rounded side up...obviously wrong!), because after installing and lowering the lid and hearing a click, it won't unlock haha. Tried pushing around in various gaps with a flat head but to no avail. Rear screws firmly in place under the lid, so I can't lift from the rear. Any lock pickers out there? Nothing locked inside except a seven year old cell phone. Needed to do something about that anyway.

At least it has nice smooth leather on top now. It's beautiful. Really.

Hate to say it, but in this case, your nom de querre seems appropriate.

Anyway, good luck with your problem. At least is looks nice.

"Skid Mark"? How does that apply here? Missed that...

I'm taking it to my indy shop tomorrow, I'll give them a chance at it. Maybe going at it from the side, or a hook from the front to pull one latch from the other might do it.

It does look great, and comfy too...

Skid,

I'm afraid you're going to have to drop the transmission and approach the center console from below. Be sure to post photos!

Seriously, though, that's an interesting one. Wish I could help you. Tell us a bit about the new leather. I could use that upgrade as well. Can't see any pic below, btw.

Well, since you asked haha...

My pad was fine, just added 1/8in foam but used new leather because the original was not going to smooth out by stretching. I called Jag to see what a new arm rest was to compare to cost of my leather worker's labor and material and their price was $625 vs her $200. I had to take it apart and put it back together for her because she was afraid of dealing with the cup holder. Smart girl haha...smarter than me...
The problem is just the release tab being upside down, so I need to find a locksmith who can work carefully with plastic.

Great looking job although Reverend Sam managed the same and got the lid to open afterwards.

Good luck,
Graham

The air went blue? I've got a sister that lives in Oxford and I must admit I've never heard that expression.

Are you saying his lid locked down and he managed to get it open somehow? I need to find out how he did that!

You can see it, touch it, but not really do anything with it.

Skid,

I can see the photo now that I'm on the home computer. Looks great, even when locked!

Where did you source the leather, and what kind of shop did the work for you?

Good thing it looks good locked, that may be its only raison d'etre!

The gal that does my leather owns her own shop. Been taking my automotive leather and other interior needs there for 17+ years. She had the matching leather already in stock, it was the first batch she pulled off the shelf.

Coupe I'm sorry, I forgot to do the thumbnail for you.

Try this...remove the gate trim pieces and reach back to try and unlatch it from underneath.

I was thinking along the same lines, just at the other end. I popped off the small panel at the rear of the center console, and could feel the two screws that attach the lid's hinge to the console. I figured they could be backed out and allow the lid to be raised and then maneuvered off the front latch, which turned out to be true. All I had to do for the access was remove the J-gate and take out the center console lol. Everyone's favorite job.
After geting the lid off, I took it apart (again) and flipped the release tab over to right side up and put it all back together.
So here's a big picture for you, Matt! Thanks to you and everyone else!

No, it was there, but the battery was dead as a door nail. Guess I left it on...
