Default chips and scratch removal (guidance)

Hi all:

I have some chips and scratches. I am overwhelmed by the info on the net. There are so many choices these days. I would like to here from some of you whom have had good results. The product and technique you used or even a link. I want to make sure it goes well from the get go. Does not have to be a long blurb and as mentioned even the link to the product. And perhaps lessons learned.

Tks

If there are a lot of stone chips the only real solution is a respray, I got my old TT bumper resprayed before selling it. For minor stone chips I build up layers of paint, rub down with 1500/2000 wet and dry on a tiny block, and then polish with megs scratch X and a da.

For minor scratches, even those you can feel with a nail but not through the clearcoat, its the same wet and dry rub down and polish, its always a bit scary how far you push the wet and dry depending on the scratch depth.

There are a lot of videos on youtube showing how to do this.

Get a Dr Paint Chip pen if the chip is down to the primer and fill a little at a time. Also buy a small bottle of clear coat and complete repair by using fine artists brush, not the big brush in the bottle. Then use 2000 wet and polishing compounds. I have also used clear coat to fill scratches that do not go through the color coat.

I had a chip that went to the primer on my bonnet about 1/8 th inch in diameter. After sanding and using touch-up paints, and sanding and using touch-up paint, I took it to a paint shop, $400 later it looked good. Since then I learned how to paint and can do it myself. You need the professional equipment if you want a professional job.

For larger chips like that I use my airbrush after carefully feathering the damage area.
I probably should have recommended that hdsg visit the Detailing/ Car Care Forum.Detailing / Car care - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

There is a product that I have had some success using for paint chips--Langka (google it). The degree of success has a lot to do with the paint color and whether or not it is solid or metallic, etc. What this product does is get rid of the lumps and bumps you end up with after using touch-up to fill a chip.
