Cold start garage shift stalling
My 2001 XK8 4.0L has a problem with stalling when shifting from park or neutral to reverse or drive on first starting in the morning or after long cooldowns. The engine idles normally at about 750 rpm, but drops to near 400 and stalls when shifted into gear. This happens year round but starts fine after warning up the engine. There are no codes! Has anyone experienced this and solved it? Help!
I get this in my 98 XK8 but only on cold mornings (<10C) after 4/5 days of inactivity. I was assuming a gearbox issue such as slightly low transmission oil level or transmission oil draining from somewhere it shouldn't (shifts are fine once warmed up a little). Interested to see other feedback.
