Default Convertible roof button and steering wheel control buttons

Are the convertible roof control button and steering wheel control buttons for the audio and cruise control supposed to be illuminated on a 2002 XK8?

The steering wheel buttons are definitely not illuminated but I'm not sure about the roof button. Mine is not lit but I think it should be.

Question Same Issue

Ron,

Thanks for asking this question. I am hoping Graham will respond to this post but I am unsure if I am responding to your initial post or Graham’s response. But here goes...

I seldom drive my 2004 XKR at night so when I did so recently I noticed the cruise and stereo buttons on the steering wheel were not illuminated. Seemed wrong; everything else in the car was. Why not these controls? From the responses you received it seems that the other owners confirmed that theirs were also unlit but it did not seem as if anyone knew definitively if that was per design or we all suffered from burned out bulbs.

I am guessing that Graham knows the answer to this issue. He certainly seems to have encyclopedic knowledge of so much. Graham, if you get this, could you please confirm if the buttons were designed with illumination. If so, how do we find and replace the defective bulb(s)?

Thanks.

Hi, not Graham here, but I can confirm the steering wheel buttons do not have bulbs at all. In fact, if you look close enough at them, you will notice that graphics on them are painted on and not illuminatable at all.

Thanks, Giandanielxk8! Found some other topics confirming what you said. Now just need to confirm that the convertible top button does not illuminate. Seems there are several who believe it does not.
