Default Convertible top pump electrical

Can anyone tell me the function of the two tin can-looking gadgets mounted on top of the convertible top pump, each with an electrical connector? From (verrrrrrry basic) general electrical experience, they look like capacitors. I was removing the pump reservoir to clean it, happened to touch one, and it was hotter than a stove! Ouch! Hoping I can find a replacement and not have to toss an otherwise good pump.

It would be most helpful to know what XK8/XKR your working on. Anyway the 2 knobs should be directional solenoid valves for raise/lower. By chance did you forget to disconnect the battery prior to commencing work. It is possible you triggered an action that had kept the solenoid engaged and caused the overheating.
I would restore everything and check for operation and overheating.

Yep, they are the solenoids. Be very careful not to break the fine wires feeding them - they are very delicate and nigh on impossible to repair
