Default Convertible- Tucked or Untucked?

For the tonneau cover, do you tuck it in along the body from the B pillar to the trunk? Or do you let it ride on the outside of the body panel?

I've tried both and the tucked in looks good and the performance doesn't seem to suffer if it's untucked....so I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks....

IF I use mine I tuck it however 90% of the time I don't bother using it.

Look in the mirror, do you have a man bun, is your suit 2 sizes too small, and do you need an app to make life's little decisions? Un-tuck

For the rest of us, tuck

This works for shirts, socks with sandals, and Jaguar boot covers.

if you do not tuck it, it might over time make abrasion marks on the finish. Even something that appears very soft, such as the lining of the cover, has abrasive qualities.

That's exactly my thoughts. I appears for all intents and purposes to be designed to be tucked in. I recall press photos showing it tucked in, but my memory is garbage lol.

Tucked.
But what are those tabs/loops on the trunk edge? I just pull on them, but it looks as if a rod or something should go through them, maybe to prevent theft of tonneau with a locked trunk.

From the factory those loops had a plastic rod with rubber grommets in each one. They sat in the rain gutter, I assume they held the cover in place.

#3 is the plastic tube, Part# HJA7845DA
#2 is the rubber plug, Part# CBC7363

The tabs with the tubes and plugs help to keep the cover installed by using the closed trunk lid as you surmised.

Thanks. I'm sure I can fashion something pretty easily if I can't buy them.

Terry's Jaguar parts has them...the tubes are $3.11 each and the plugs are .42 cents each....

My XK8 came with a package of spare tubes and it took me awhile to figure out what they were used for. I found one of the plugs deep within the trunk down by the spare tire after Learned what the tubes were for and for now, I'm using the tubes without the plugs but I decided to break down and buy the plugs....they should be arriving next week sometime.

Yeah this came up before. I use it most of the time and I do tuck it in like below since it was designed to be used that way.

I only have one of those little rods. I plan on going to a hobby shop and getting the right circumference wooden dowel and cut to fit.

Tucked - but mine never looks quite as neat as Rothwell's!

And use it religiously. With my previous XKR I didn't bother. After a while the lining became marked and grubby, and I am sure the structure would have degraded and failed eventually.

Robxk8,

If you are near a Lowes, just buy a dowel and puck up a rubber ring in the fastener isle.

thought I was a genius until I saw the great reference above. Looks like you buy an exact replacement for pennies!

Oh well at least this is a fast way to secure it. If anyone needs a more detailed photo of the rubber fastener or anything just ask.

Always tucked, and the tonneau cover is always installed whenever the top is down. Only takes a minute and the long-term protection is well worth the time required to install and remove it....

Me too ^^^^, and the inside edges look neat when they are tucked in around the back seat corners.

Yes, did you ever notice you get the most compliments on the car with the cover on? I sure do.
