Are you sure about the pollen filter? Did you pull the wipers off and lift the cover and look? I did and what I found the cause of the smelly air in my car.
found the cause of the smelly air in my car.
There is a product available where you turn the AC on to recycle and full speed and pop the cap of the product and shut the door with the ac running for 15 minutes.
It works pretty good and clears up the old stale bacteria in the air vents. Its about $15 a can so worth trying.
Yes, there were others too, English Leather,Jade East and left over from 50's Old Spice. Never mind Brylcreme or Vitalis. Careful Michaelh, we are dating our era. :-)
Smoker owned my car at first, but there is no evidence now after cleaning the Evap. with this product. Had to remove the center dash vent to inject into housing. Leave it for specified time and then flush with clear water. Now no smell, but I did not have a filter. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...bH2RvKoPzoOyDD
Michaelh, that was funny as hell! Remember those commercials?
For the younger folks, the advertising was um, different. A guy would put the aftershave on, then pretty ladies would swarm him while he just walked down the street. The premise was he had to use karate to fight them off. As he swung, instead of grunting hi-ya, he'd say Hi - Karate! Of course every man who watched that commercial thought to himself "imagine what that aftershave would do for me!" (God, the crap we fell for in the 70's).
BTW I proudly bought a bottle for my dad. I noticed over the level never changed ;-) in 5 yrs. . .
I was an English Leather guy. My girlfriend at the time preferred it. So does my wife, although I have not used any aftershave or cologne since probably the mid-1980s. I still have a bottle of English Leather aftershave conditioner in one of the master bathroom cabinets. I wonder if it has solidified by now....
Joking aside, as mentioned before there spray bombs you can buy. My local auto parts store has a vanilla one that works wonders getting rid of old/ standing for years unused car smell.
Like that Jag cologne. The smell in my car isn't stale at all. Previous owner (female) used a perfume and the smell is getting a lot worse. I've left the windows open daily. Wiped down the leather with cleaner. Baking soda sprinkled on floors. Removed and vac'd the floor matts. Bought a plug in ionizer (space age blue glow, great conversation starter if dating). Smells almost like a bottle of the "Jag Lady" perfume is drip, drip, dripping somewhere. Like she's getting revenge for my taking her car away. Suggests appreciated. Nothing strongly scented.
Hi Guys,
I'm a captain on what is known as a super-yacht.
We regularly run into some of the strangest of problems that need serious solutions that work quickly. Our go to product, that we have been personally using for the last eight years, is a product from the US called Vital Oxide. One of its many attributes is as a deodorizer, unfortunately, no great smell of Brut, just clean fresh air, no sent.
It does work, it's save my hide many a time. It is gentle and can be sprayed on anything. (The inside of a super-yacht is a real delicate puppy)!
We’ve had some success using vinegar, as recommended in this article. When we bought my wife’s car, it smelled like an explosion at a perfume factory. I adapted the above method by boiling up a cast iron pan of water (so it would retain heat longer), adding a lot of white vinegar, then putting it on a trivet on the floor (so the heat didn’t damage the carpet). Left it all sealed up for a couple of hours, then opened up the car and aired it out. I’ve done this twice now, and the smell is greatly reduced.
Beware, though - it gets steamy in there - so stick to the cool vinegar-only approach in the linked article if you’re worried about moisture damage.
