Default Diff. output bearing endplay

While trying to locate a clunk at low speed stop and start I noticed there was quite a bit of play when you rocked the rear wheel in the 12 and 6 position.
I traced it to the diff. output bearing (drivers side) Does anybody know what amount of play is acceptable and is it easily adjusted out (shims poss.) Not sure if this is the source of the clunk.

There was a thread a few months ago about this one:

Sounds like the limit of the diff shaft movement is spec'ed to be less than 0.15mm. This seems to translate to 2mm or so of movement at the wheel.

Thanks Charlie, still not sure what exactly is moving, but it seems to be within the limits.
I don't think that is where the clunk is coming from though

Does it happen when shifting from R to D?

I have heard that the diff mount bushings can cause a clunk by letting the mounting bolts shift up and down slightly in the frame.
