Hello fellow Jaguar lovers! I am currently facing a dilemma, and haven't been able to find a lot of information. I would like to purchase an XK8 for long term ownership, and I currently live in the United States. However in the next few years I will be looking to move overseas to Continental Europe, and I am having the devil's own time deciding whether to buy an American spec, or European spec XK8 Coupe,

The left vs right hand drive aspect is not as much of an issue; I'm more concerned about the changes that had to be made to meet American emissions standards, and also features that are or are not standard. in certain markets as well as what isn't available. One of the only market specifics I know of, is the addition of a standard inclination sensor in the UK.

We have had a few members move their XK8's from the USA to Europe and I've read some posts about European members importing US specification vehicles. Although the rules are similar, some European countries can be more exuberant than others in applying them. Regardless of the checks the vehicle will have to pass, the first essential for a US specification vehicle is to obtain a European Type Approval Certificate prior to export. Apparently this has become increasingly difficult over the years but you would need to start enquiries with a Jaguar Dealer or directly Jaguar North America.

Importing a European specification vehicle into the US - I'm sure several ex-military or ex-diplomatic members will know the procedure and degree of difficulty.
