Default Dim message center light

1999 XK8 Coupe. My message center that's housed in the speedometer is so dark that I can only see the message at night. Even after I've dialed up the controller on the steering column, I can not read the message during daylight hours. Does anyone have an idea on how to brighten the message? As I've said the controller wheel that controls the brightness of the instrument cluster is worthless. This is like a screen on a cell phone that is so dark you can't read it. Thank you.

Warren, just 2b sure you know that area dims as soon as headlights are on. So if you, like me, drive with headlights on during day, dashboard dims.

You specifically pointed to message center so this may not apply.

Yes, even driving with the headlights off, the message center is so dim you can't read it unless you cup the speedometer with your hand, and even then you can just barely see the message. I wonder if it's just a bad LCD board in the speedometer?

If you get a reading on the screen, then most likely the bulb providing back lighting is burned out. If going to the trouble to change one bulb you should just change all of them while you have the cluster out.

Good point, maybe it's the bulb behind the message center. I think I'll change out all the bulbs and see what happens. It can't hurt.
