Default Dimimg headlights and no headlights and dash lights at the same time on 2004 jag xk8.

I would appreciate some help with this problem. I can't turn on my headlights and have the dash lights on at the same time. Either I can get the headlights to come on or the dash lights by rotation of the switch. Also when the headlights or on they are almost never steady they always seem to flicker almost like they are going to go off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.!!!!!

I lost headlights in the past which turned out to be a broken wire on the lighting switch of the steering column. Others have experienced similar problems there as well.

Start by swapping the headlight relay with a known good one. If that doesn't work, bridge the headlight relay in the engine fuse block to confirm the lights work.

After that, remove the upper and lower steering column covers and carefully examine the wiring at the base of the lighting stalk into the switch.
