I have the factory premium stereo with cd changer in the trunk. The CD changer stopped working and the display says no CD or something like that. I looked at all the fuses in the trunk but, they all look fine to me. 2001 coupe.

My '04 XK8 has the Alpine premium unit. It quit on me soon after. I replaced the battery(original Jag) and all was well.

It's powered via the link cable from either the Power amp if you have the premium sound, otherwise from the head unit. No separate external fuse, so could either be bad link connection or the unit itself. Can you eject the cassette or is it totally dead?

Hmmm. The radio works fine. Antenna works fine. The navigation system seems fine. The CD Changer seems dead or without power. True, I can't even eject the CD cassette.

Should I check all the cable connections as best I can before I reboot the system? Is that the next logical thing to do?

Apologies, I read the wiring diagram incorrectly: the CD is linked to the power amp on the premium system whether you have Nav. or not. I've corrected my previous post.

A hard reset is the easiest first try. After that, I'd check the link cable in case it's wriggled loose. It's probably tucked behind the units and you've got quite a bit going on in your trunk with the Nav. system.

Let us know if it's still not playing ball. In the meantime I'll look for the connections on the link cable as JTIS doesn't give the pinout, but I'm sure someone has posted it here.

Good luck!

CD player units are common to fail, but I agree, try hard reset first and go from there. It if is the unit, usually you can take them out and have them rebuilt.

Here's the pinout for the Alpine system link cable in case you need to check for power. 12v across pins 7 & 8.

I can't offer much other guidance as I have the HK system which is different, although it's likely the unit itself as JBzXJ40 notes.

It may be fused internally if you want to dig deeper.

HTH,
Mike

Interesting, mine just quit this week. 73,000 miles, as above, AM/FM cassette (!!) all work fine, switching to CD gives an error message. What might be different, when I go to eject the carrier, I think I can hear some clicks like it is trying, but will not perform the ejection. I am going to poke around it today and of course check back here.

If you have the message "No CD", follow the instructions of the Attachement. This worked fine for me.
Cheers !
