1999 xk8 convertible. When I now use remote there is no clicking noise but lights flash. Car is alarmed but doors not locked. Tried new remote battery...no joy. Car battery did get very low before this started. There are no door buttons on this model. Any ideas please?

 

Do your windows go up when you close the door?

I vaguely remember my car behaving similarly when the microswitch in my driver door was failing, causing it to not think it could lock the doors, although I might be wrong about that.

 

Disconnect the battery for a few seconds and reconnect it. Then try the remote again. Try this a few times if it does not work the first time.
