Default A Drum replaced...now have issue

I did the a drum replacement in a 5HP 24 trans, did all the work as per maint shares from this site and YouTube views...replaced the clutch discs in the A and B drums and pressure valve. Inspected the valve body, saw nothing unusual...put everything back together, mated the trans back to engine and in the process of installing the drive shaft, attempted to rotate the drive shaft and it only wants to rotate in one direction (looking forward from the rear counterclockwise)...I've not put a tool on the shaft to try to turn it...wondered if someone could offer any insights into what might be causing this. As i was reassembling the front end everything when together seemingly well, I rotated the drums to get them aligned...did the slight lift and drop to get the metallic clunk, rotated the torque converter and fulled seated it...but I can't recall rotating the output flange...just have no idea.

Well, definitely figure it out before trying to start... Remove (unbolt) the driveshaft from the trans to isolate the issue.

A few initial points are critical . . . did you test free rotation before mating to engine? . . . or was this revealed only once mated? I suspect the latter but need you to be precise, because a full internal re-strip & re-build is going to be more pita than a mating issue.

Cheers,

Ken

Don't remember checking for rotation before mating to engine...but was really careful assembling and fitting drum...had to move all those pieces to get everything set...don't know

Step one would be to unbolt the driveshaft and flex plate then see if trans rotates. from that point you will know whether to remove the trans or not.
