Default ECM & TCM Cooling Fan

While suffering with 'stay-at-home' boredom, I have been doing various routine and cosmetic work on my car. I got thinking about the
cooling fan for the ECM and TCM modules, and I am wondering if anyone has had any problems with it? It seems to be
little bigger than a PC cooling fan, and goodness knows how many bad ones in PCs and industrial computers I have
replaced over the years.

What would likely happen if one fails? Would the first indication be when the car fails due to overheated modules or
is a hi-temp alarm generated? Any thoughts on the subject?

my brain fan was failing, and easy to notice. The bearing was seizing up when the car was started in very cold weather, It made a helluva squealing / screeching notice that lasted anywhere from 5 to 60 seconds.

I bought an exact replacement from SNG Barrett, and got their discount for being a member of this forum.

Not sure about your car(s) but the TCM in mine needs no fan as it's immersed in the oil.

I should add, my car is a 2002 XKR.

I believe there is a code for that:-

P1136 “Cool box” fan malfunction Ignition ON; fan operating N N N None Cooling fan power supply (fuse) fault Cooling fan drive circuit fault Cooling fan motor failure

Thanks for that info. I was hoping there would be a code of some sort generated.

I also did some searching around to find out the availability of these fans, and they shouldn't
be hard to find. However, if you Google the Jaguar part number LJB 2412BB I found them
to be in the $70 plus range. If you Google the manufacturer info, Papst Typ 8412, they are
to be found in the $15 range!
