Extended warranties
My warranty runs out next Feb. and I'm looking to renew it. I've had a preliminary talk with the dealer and he quoted me some pretty hefty prices. I know these warranties have a very healthy markup in them for the dealer, anyone have any idea what % it might be? Thanks.

I got an extended three year warranty from Great Lakes when I bought my 2000 XK8 in '06. They only paid claims based on reconditioned/used parts for repairs, so if I wanted new parts, I made up the difference out of my pocket. So if you don't want that, make sure the one you get states that only new parts will be used, otherwise they have an "out" to approve only used parts.
BTW, Click and Clack on Car Talk say don't bother with it, they're not worth it. I barely recouped the cost of my warranty, $2300 for 3yrs. It's mostly disaster insurance, for a blown motor or tranny.

I am in the process of getting a mechanical breakdown warranty through my wife's credit union. It's called Members Choice and I had this with 2 previous cars that I owned. They were pretty good in covering things without too much hassle--the only thing was for repairs above a certain amount, they needed to get this okay'd by an adjuster.
For both those cars, I would have been worse off by not getting the warranty (i.e., the out-of-pocket expenses if I did not have the warranty would have been more than the cost of the warranty).
For the Jaguar, I am getting a 4-year/48,000 mile warranty at their "Platinum" level (supposedly covers everything) and the cost will be about $1,500 with a $100 deductible per incident, which seems very fair. Given my experience thus far with the Jaguar, getting the warranty is really a no-brainer.
