Factory microphone

Factory microphone
I just bought a 2005 xkr which has the phone controls on the wheel but, no phone. Before taking on one of the mods to add Bluetooth for my iPhone, I want to be sure I don't need to add a microphone to the car. There doesn't appear to be a factory mike. Where should I look to be sure?
Great forum.
Thanks in advance.

The factory microphone is in the roof console, behing the grille (that space is also shared with an ultrasonic passenger sensor for the airbag). The connections are available under the armrest.
If you have a convertible though, you may want to consider one of the Parrot handsfree units with dual noise cancelling microphones for better top down performance.

If you don't have the phone then in all likelihood you don't have the mic either, and honestly you are probably better off with something more modern anyway.
I also have a coupe and used a Parrot CK3000 (single mic) with good results. White made a reference to a how-to for this and HDMI video on the nav screen in your other post: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-screen-87040/.
TheJagWrangler - Home - About Us sells a harness that let's you connect an external video input to the nav screen. Not strictly required for this mod, but makes makes it WAY easier since you can avoid having to splice into the short harness that runs through the dash. Well worth it IMHO.

If I may tack on here, what about if I want to connect my iPhone to a non-nav 2000 XKR that has the mic up by the maplights? There is a factory-looking holster for a flip phone I believe in the center console. Anything I can do to re-use factory wring and use a 'phone' button to enable streaming audio would be wonderful. Looking to do something ASAP. Thanks!

See the attached write-up. This will get you what you are looking for. It does not use the steering wheel buttons, but instead a very small wireless button console that can be attached to the steering wheel or placed in the ashtray and is quite discreet.
Please note Appendix B...Year 2000 has oddball wiring, but is still doable. Contact me if you want me to make up the patch cable you need for year 2000, I stock the parts.

Thanks for this! Bookmarked, and your site too (RealGauge, wow!). I'm really looking for something that allows me to spoof the CD changer input with an adaptor harness on the back of the HU instead of adding an outside control interface like the Parrot, though I'm going to keep this plan as a backup. I've used a few Blitzsafe adaptors in the past but am not seeing one for the XK8/XKR.
The only audio input I need is AUX-in... I hate aftermarket headunits, and would prefer to keep the stock HU, but may have to succumb to one in order to pull this off simply. Streaming audio is more important than the actual phone/Bluetooth interface (prefer non-RF hardwired input for audio).

If a wireless streaming interface and phone is not a requirement then check this iPod adapter out: iP-JAGCD iPod Adapter for Select Jaguar with CD Auto Changer :: iPod Adapters & Interfaces
It has been getting good reports on the XJ-X308 forum.
