Family resemblances
Take a look at the lines of the Eagle Speedster in this video. Does anything look familiar to our beloved XK-8? Now think of what the Eagle costs in pounds or dollars...we all got incredible bargains any way you look at it!
The first part of the video brought back great memories: I owned the 274th E-Type built. I rescued it after it had been vandalised; tires slashed, fuel tank and engine "sugared" or some other crap put in both, all the gauges glass broken, etc. I bought it for $800 and towed it home, tore it apart, cleaned it up, put new tines on it, replaced the gauge glass, rebuilt the engine, repainted and got her back on the road for less than a total outlay of $2,000 dollars in 1977.
What a car!
Sadly, she was struck in the bonnet several years later by a drunk driver in an International Scout (high, flat bumper for maximum damage) and I ended up selling her and a running but rusted 1964 FHC E-Type I had acquired for a parts car. The pair sold for $5,000.
The Eagle is nice but I still prefer the E-Type. My XK-8 coupe is the closest thing I can afford now with E-Type prices having gone "through the roof."
