Just got dissed from the more prestigious newer gen XK forum. I occasionally browse over there just to see what those guys think of the latest generation cars in anticipation of one day (if/when I get tired of my 2005) I might consider a used newer gen. What a world of difference between this area and that one. I probably was out of line adding my $0.02 to a thread complaining why the XKR is only rated at 4.4 seconds 0-60 instead of 4.0. An entirely different stratosphere of discussion goes on over there.

Guess I will try to keep my nose over here where it belongs.

They can have their X150s, I think the X100s have more true Jaguar soul. The X150s, while technologically advanced has lost the style and elegance that has always been part of a Jaguar and that's my $0.02 worth! You are appreciated over here; those guys can all consume feces and make canine utterances at the lunar orb.

That cracks me up--good one!!! The guys over here are more regular types. Too many over there seem to be of the "hey look at how much disposable money I have to spend"-types.

Not your best post Mark so I will return to the XJ40 Forum.

I just read that thread; you must have really hit a nerve Doug. I have to agree with you though. A Jaguar is not a dragster, it's a Grand Tourer. If the guy wanted a dragster, he shouldn't have bought a Grand Tourer. Speaking for myself, I wanted a GT, which is why I bought an XKR.

He certainly got very excited. His temper goes from 0-60 in less than 4 seconds even if nothing else does.

I know where I belong. Both of our Jaguars are highway cruisers, not track performers. I will never even think about pretending that they are anything else....

I did have a read.......... Did get a bit defensive didn't he....... Not sure I would worry about the 0-60 time myself, if you ever went to the strip on a RWYB day you will get embarrassed very easily. Not sure on 1/4 times for the 5.0ltr, a well tuned X100 XKR would see high 12s, a very well tuned might get 11s, it is the weight that lets the XK down, if you could lose plenty of weight like I have done in my track car you might even do better. I will take all of my XKs on the strip one day just for giggles

I guess my post over there was taken as some kind of sarcastic wise-*** remark by some interloper from "the other side of the tracks". Either the specific point I was trying to make was misunderstood by them or I did not make myself clear enough. I was not complaining that it would be nice to get more oomph out of the car. We all want to do that whether we own a Honda or a Ferrari. Look at any of the car forums and there is always discussion on what can be done to get a few more horsepower from the engine (basically, guys will be guys and same for some gals).

But it is quite another thing to buy a car that advertises itself as 4.4 seconds 0-60 and then complain why isn't it 4 seconds. It is what it is and that's all there is. Go ahead and add tweaks to get it to 4 seconds but don't complain that when the specs clearly advertise 4.4 seconds you are not getting 4 and start asking why not. Am I making sense here?

The broader observation is that "over there" is fundamentally a different demographic than "over here". My impression of our section is that basically we are a bunch of working stiffs who do okay and have enough money to be able to afford a used piece or rolling art that really costs not that much more than a nicely loaded Honda. Over there you get guys who drop $100K on a new XKR and then drop another $20K on a body kit or other mods. Basically we are all "enthusiasts" but we over here are of more the "grease under the fingernails type" versus the "green falling out of your pockets" type.

Ok guys....it is what is is and Doug walked away and the situation was / is difused.

I had written a long post here, then thought better of it and deleted it all!

Simply put, no matter what we are ALL part of the Jag family, thats from the guy with the £100k car who has a Jag as part of his "fleet" to the guy who has just bought a £2k car with lots of issues, but hey, its a Jaaaaag.

The "them and us" philosophy has never crept in here and I don't intend to let it now
