Default Filtered line ?

Going through this "new to us" 2000 XK8 and i found a line with a filter on it which is not connected to anything. This picture show it located next to the brake fluid reservoir. Can't locate where line begins in engine compartment.

disconnected line with filter at its end.
. Anyone know what it is or where this should be connected?

Looks like an aftermarket inline fuel filter and I can't figure out why it's in that location. . The XK8 has its OEM fuel filter located at the rear underside of the car near the fuel tank. I can't imagine that the filter you found has any functionality, but I'm sure that others will chime in.

You'll find set ups like that on older cars that run (for a few reasons) fresh air thru say a distributor cap or something. Considering we have no distributor caps, I guess that can be ruled out.

That area seems walled off from the rest O the engine bay, but it's kinda not. You'll have to get in there with a strong light and find (and you can) the other end of that hose. The end that's open is meant to be. Previous owner decided a need to allow a vac or a pump to intentionally pull in filtered fresh air, for some reason. Gotta find the end of that hose.

Good digging

+1 to in-line fuel filter.

It is NOT a Jaguar fitting. These used to be a common owner addition in the fuel feed line back in the days of carbs when dirt or water in the fuel would easily block the jets.

The outlet is open so it's doing nothing but there's an inlet pipe connected. You need to trace this back to find out where is it's coming from to get any idea why a PO would fit this filter.

This is a fitting for an air line for the EVAPP valve. The line should go down into the left front wheel well to the aft side into the appropriate port on the EVAPP valve. Was new for 2002 and is appropriate for all replacement valves currently available new. All of mine have this.

See diagram in TSB 303-63 attached.

I've therefore revised my misleading post #5 to strikethrough the first sentence.

I am amazed CRBASS dug that up; it sure appeared to me to be "not a Jaguar fitting." This is a great example of why this forum is an outstanding resource.

Dale knows his stuff. He can track down even the most obscure details, especially when it involves electronics....

Indeed, without this forum, I would have great difficulty fixing the EVAPP valve on my 2001 with a new one, which is the reason I know this. It appears that nearly any problem, even pretty odd ones, have been encountered and fixed around here.

My thanks to all who came before.
