Default FM reception with IPod adaptor

My 98 XK coupe with a stock sound system has an "iSimple" brand IPod adaptor. It works well but I have no FM or AM reception. I have no knowledge of how it was installed or what principle it works on but it appears that it plays through an FM tuned station as it works best on a specific frequency. I suspect the previous owner or installer disconnected the antenna but no way to know until I look Guess I'll have get at the back of the radio to find out what's up with it. Before I do that I am looking for advice from others who are familiar with these issues or who may have the same problem.

Thanks
Paul

Do you know which model iSimple you have? I suspect it is one of their wireless FM adapters, most of which work pretty poorly in metro areas...and the previous owner disconnected the antenna to try to get it to work better with less outside station interference. It might be easier to check in the trunk first for a disconnected antenna.

I suspected it would be something like you describe. Antenna connection in the trunk is still intact so I will be pulling the head unit this weekend.
Thanks

You have to remove the whole center console to get behind the radio. I have a video which shows how to do it. Click the link to my youtube channel down below in my signature.

It should have an on and off switch, see if you can find it.

Default Update

Got around to taking a look at the back of the head unit. By the way, thanks for the video instructions on getting the console out. Very helpful. Turns out the antenna was plugged into a spliltter plug coming from the Ipod adapter. I suspect it should not have affected the signal. However, when I unplugged the antenna plug from the splitter and inserted it directly into the head unit I had my reception back. Obviously the Isimple adapter is faulty so it is now in the garbage bin and I have great FM reception. Thanks again for the comments

Not a fan of FM modulators, they never work well, a Parrot is far superior if you have an IPhone
