Found an unlikely source of coolant odor
Every time I pull into my garage I get a slight smell of coolant odor. Levels aren't dropping , car is running normal, and no visible signs of a leak.
Yesterday, while washing my car, I decided to hose the lining of the hood (bonnet) of my car.
Much to my surprise, there was quite a bit of orange coolant residue embedded into the lining. I was shocked how much orange came flowing out. It took a good bath to completely flush out the coolant.
I suspect that the smell was reproduced every time the engine was hot to heat the liner.
A few months ago, I blew a small hose, and it splashed onto the liner.
Last night after a 4 hour ride in 92 degree heat, I was happy to poke my nose under the hood, without a single trace of coolant smell.
