Default Fuel door won't open

Hello to all!

1997 XK8 convertible has been sitting for 8 months (with weekly start ups) needing a new transmission. With 2 kids in college...well you know.

Went to add fuel and found that the button on the dash did not open the fuel door. I know where the manual release is in the trunk so I used that.
The latch doesn't seem broken and the last time I opened the fuel door the button worked.

I would appreciate any suggestions

Thanks in advance!

Nick

From memory, the button only "works" when the engine is off, but the key is still in the ignition switch. The key can be in the off position, I think. You might want to check with some combinations.

As usual, the right answer is in the owner's manual. Should be a link to it in the stickies.

Either way, lube up the latch pin and latch with some white lithium grease. If I do not renew the grease on my wife's XK8's latch pin and latch at least three or four times per year, her fuel filler door tends to stick in place as well. Fresh grease always fixes it....
