Default Fuel feeder line - replacing

I'm replacing the fuel feed line on my 98 XK8. What I've done so far:
1) with car running, removed fuel pump fuse
2) removed battery
3) pressed valve on fuel rail at front of engine to release any residual pressure
4) disconnected fuel filter and let small amount of fuel drain from fuel feed pipe

Question 1: if I now remove the feed pipe from the fuel tank, will more fuel come from the tank?

Before starting this job I ran the car for 20 miles with the fuel warning light on. I'm not sure how much fuel is in the tank or if the fuel line going into the tank is above the fuel level. If it was, then little fuel would come out I guess.

Question 2: can I attach a pump to the fuel feed line and draw fuel out of the tank?

From what I've read, drawing fuel from gas filler cap location is very slow process if at all possible.

-Cheers,
Tom

Why are you replacing it, do you have a leak? Also, are you worried about the little bit of gas from the line spilling or are you worried that the remains from the gas tank will spill out?

Once you are done, please update this thread, I am dealing with a slow leak. I don't think it is from the line, but I am not sure yet. If you can, snap a few photos when you are doing the job.

Not sure what your worried about? Catch whatever fuel comes out into a container, there cannot be much left after 20 miles with the warning lamp on?
Working with petrol is a risk "full stop," you just need to be mindful of potential sparks from tools your using, plenty of ventilation and keep clearing away the wet rags you use for dry ones. Whatever process you adopt, I doubt you'll ever get all the fuel out the tank unless you remove it and the sender. I have done this (not a Jag), I just followed these rules and had somebody watching over me through the tricky bits. Just work safe......TS

Default Job done

Scott: I had a leak due to rusted pipe. Pipe is a bitch to get off especially when the car is on ramps. So I just replaced the leaking section by cutting pipe and joining using fuel pipe and jubilee clips. It past the MOT - job done! Let me know if I can help with anything.

Trevor: being trapped under car, I didn't want any chance of being covered in fuel while trying to get out from under it. First time nerves I guess

The in-tank Pump feeds a hose that goes up and then down to the lower exit pipe on the Tank. There will not be a continuous flow from the Tank.

Paul, thanks, I had a feeling that would be the case. Do you happen to have any links to images of the pump+tank layout? I found some on internet (JTIS I think), but they don't show any detail.
