Default Fuel pump harness melted

Just got this from me,"We pulled the tank on the Jaguar Friday afternoon to install the new fuel pump and found the wiring is melted at the tank flange. "

Normal??

That usually happens 99%of the time when there is increased resistance in the circuit.

from my limited experience in dealing with minor electrical issues, I don’t think the wiring overall in these cars is a heavy enough gauge. No, I don’t have any electrical engineering degrees. Just comparing the wiring to what cars used to come with.

when everything is new and working as intended, yes, it’s sufficient for the anticipated life of the car. But we are driving them twice that intended benchmark……

Dying pump and clogged fuel filter will increase the load on the wiring.
