Fuel Sender - Alternative Brand?
Anyone know of a different brand fuel sender that will work on a 2000 XK8? PN LJA2000AC
Even used Jag ones are going for crazy money and may have the same issues.
I will be testing mine with resistors and a multimeter tomorrow, but after four tanks of gas the gauge still gets stuck at just under 1/2 on the way down. (I got caught running out the first time!) I really suspect that sender...
Thanks
E

It's highly likely the sender has issues. The rheostat portion wears out and you get funky readings. I see new ones available online for $200 - $250. From a Jag standpoint, that's not all that expensive. Just bite the bullet. Look at it this way - it'll last another 20 years, so it's only going to cost you $12.50 a year.

Mine got stuck for a while, but eventually started working again. The fuel used display on the dashboard works independently of the tank float, so you can use that to avoid running empty.
It might be worth adding a can of injector cleaner to the tank and letting it sit in that for a while, or you could even remove the sender and give it a clean with contact cleaner.

In the end I snagged a new one from the UK for GBP £48 ($92 all-in, inc. shipping). (Since found
I will assess the outcoming one (using your advice) and either keep it as a spare or sell on eBay, if I can fix it. It's crazy. The cheapest on eBay USA is a used one from a less than perfect seller for around $150 all-in. Any good looking but still untested are $180+.
