Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and have just bought a beautiful 2001 Jaguar XKR. It is in generally good condition, but there is a bit of a strange issue: When you press the accelerator all the way down at around 1500-2000 rpm, it feels like the engine hesitates to give full power. For about a second or two, it’s as if it doesn’t recognize that the accelerator is fully pressed. However, if you do a full on kickdown, it gives full power.

Is this a known issue?

 

Have you checked throttle cable slack? Slack in that will result in hesitation. Very quick and easy job.

After checking the above for proper adjustment, check that the footwell stop for the pedal is adjusted to allow full travel and prevent excessive cable stretch.
Then look into fuel trims for any air leaks.
Test idle numbers for the MAF.
Finally, test the throttle position sensor.

 

Make sure you're intercooler pump is actually working as well. If it's not like mine wasn't replace it with a Bosch 010 pump. Or at least check the fuse for it. You will know it's working or not if the top of the supercharger is hot or warmish. Shouldn't be too hot ever to touch.

Another easy way to see if the intercooler pump is working is just turn the key on without starting the engine.

When you place your hand on the long intercooler hose coming from the pump you can feel the hose noticeably pulsate if the pump is working.

mine quit working a few weeks ago and I started to follow the shop manual checklist. The first thing that has to be removed is the air filter
box. Once that’s out of the way you can test for voltage to the pump wiring.

I wish this one time I had checked the relay along with the fuse first. The 22 year old relay was toast. And it only takes 2 minutes to check it .

Checking it first would’ve saved me an hours work of R&R’ing the air box (needlessly).
