Default Gearbox fault, intermittent

Hello fine gents

I have a 1998 Jaguar XK8, with 143 000km on the clock. She drives beautifully, but has a regular intermittent fault. She comes up with Gearbox fault on the dash and locks in 5th, with slow pull off. However when I switch her off and on in different gears and play around, she will eventually come back to normal without the fault. Most of the times, as soon as I put her in N, D, P, or R the fault will come back, sometimes the fault stays off and she will drive perfectly.

Gearbox changes are smooth, she doesn't clunk into gear, she is really smooth.

I am thinking it could be a dirty connector, low battery voltage?

Could it be linked to the shifter or gearbox connectors?

Where would I locate these connectors and how many are there?

Thanks so much

Failing batteries can often cause transmission issues. How old is yours?

Thanks guys, the battery is old. I put it on slow trickle charge over night, I haven't experienced a Gearbox fault again, but now the car seems to be missing, felt like between 1- 3/4 plugs weren't firing, again its intermittent, from driving fine to missing some, then missing a lot, then back to mild missing, all over a couple of km. She seemed to rev fine if I put her in Neutral.
Cause this still be a battery cause.
