Talking German Autobahn

As the title says
Jutland Denmark - Berlin and back, 1306 km lovely road trip with the 2004 XKR, 138000km on the clock.
GPS ( sat nav ) Vmax 260 km/h and an average of 8.9km/l on fuel.
That's what the car was built for

260 KMH is 161MPH.

What was your average speed?

BTW for those of us from the British Empire 8.9km/l is about 25 MPG. I'm not sure what it is in colonial gallons.

I have a Hyundai Elantra that is nothing close to as quiet, comfortable or fun to drive as my XK and it does about the same L/100km

Congrats; we need more of these positive reports. I just completed 1/2 of a round trip from Las Vegas, NV to Ft Smith, AR, (1,600 miles). Average speed 85 mph, spurts of triple digits in places. 28.5 mpg, in 100°F temps. 94,000 miles on the car, purring along like a new one!

Was the top speed governor disabled? Or is that only U.S. cars?

Car is limited at 155 mph. Driver's limit is lower.

I don't know the average speed on the Berlin tour. There's a lot of road work going on for the moment, so not very high.

No doubt that the 260km/h limit was caused by the top speed govenor. I guess it's not totally accurate to 155 MPH.

I once reached nearly the same speed on this same autobahn in my Saab 9-5 Aero steg 3 BSR. When it came to braking from this high speed the Saab was NOT as "quick" though
Trust me when I say that the XKR has great brakes for high speed driving

curious if changing the language from US English to UK English also changes from US to Imperial Gallons in the trip computer for mileage and range. will test this out at the next fill. though it is rather nice to have the car use the proper language for its origin. two People separated by a common language

I had a similar experience when I bought my XKR last Thursday.
Flying to Duesseldorf, short taxi drive, buying the car and then.....almost 1.000 kilometers driving back home.
It was a very nice and relaxing drive....WHEN you could drive....haven´t encountered so many counterflows and construction sites on an Autobahn ever.

However, when I got back to Vienna I was tempted to tell my wife, that I have "forgotten" my wallet in Duesseldorf and DAMN! I need to drive back there immediately.
Best GT car I have ever owned.

Just returned from Germany (June 18, 2018) where I had rented a BMW420i cabrio in Heideberg. The autobahn was dead stopped for many kilometers, with semi-tractor trailers filling the right lane as far as the eye could see. So, unfortunately, I was unable to enjoy the autobahn at speed!
This was my fourth driving vacation to Germany and by far the worst traffic yet.
