Greasing harmonic balance upon install?
Hi friends, I recently upgraded the lower supercharger pulley on my 2000 XKR and reinstalled the harmonic balancer with the original split cone bushing and a new bolt. I torqued it down good and all is working great. However, I forgot to put any oil on the bushing or in the harmonic balancer where it attaches to the crank. I'm now concerned the lack of lubricant may damage something (harmonic balancer, crank seal, or ?). My inclination is that the lubricant mostly aids future removal/anti-seize of the harmonic balancer but maybe it serves other purposes I'm not considering. Obviously not a trivial job to pull off just to oil so I'm seeking advice beforehand. Is my omission of oil something to worry about? Thanks
I suppose to help it from seizing and being difficult to remove later. But, my concern is that there is another reason why it needs to be lubed but I could be worrying over nothing. It would take me a few hours to remove it, add grease, and reinstall so would rather not do it unless necessary.
It's been my experience (with a normally aspirated XK8) that the harmonic balancer wants to come out on its own if the bolt not properly torqued and coated with thread locker. I imagine grease on the crankshaft would help in removal, but a puller should do the job admirably. I'd be more worried about putting the proper locking goo on the bolt and twisting it properly. Tight, per the Jaguar instruction manual, but not so tight that it breaks as journaled here by an unfortunate fellow enthusiast.
If the bolt and balancer are ship shape and Bristol fashion (always wanted to say that!) I would leave it alone.

I've attached the JTIS procedure.
It mentions applying petroleum jelly to the damper O-ring and bore. Not entirely clear to me, but I take that to mean the outer surface so that the timing cover oil seal is lubricated, since 'inner bore' is specifically mention as the location for the split collar.
It's tempting to lightly grease the surface where the collar inserts into the damper, but I'd assemble it dry.
