Smile Happy tensioner day

Having spent the last three weeks reading as much as I could about the procedure to change the secondaries I removed the valve covers yesterday to discover that they had already been changed
SO....if anyone needs a pair of secondary metal body tensioners(never used - see above) pm me and a sensible discount will be applied

Result!

Don't usually read the words 'happy' and 'tensioner' in the same thread let alone the same sentence.

I can identify with your happiness. Before I checked mine, every turn of the key in the ignition was 'a grimace' and the dreaded anticipation of the the engine detonating. However the good thing is, that they had been previously upgraded and I had a chance to stop the oil leak at the passenger side bottom right rear of the valve cover and at the one plug well with the new gaskets.

I just wish that it had been customary for some sticker or other means be afixed to the engine, to identify that the upgrade tensioners were in place. In my case, there was no prior vehicle history, no service records and nothing when doing a VIN check at the local dealer.

But just for 'sanity and peace of mind', I strongly urge everyone that is unsure if they have the old or new tensioners to check. At least you get a chance to look and see how clean or dirty (and an indication of how well the engine was taken care of) the valve train, oil galley are and to fix any lingering leaks because of the gaskets.

No worries on an 03, all 4.2s have the newer tensioners.

I thought there was some funny part of this like the recent "star wars day": May the Fourth be with you!

Maybe JF should have a monthly "tensioner workshop" thread where all the tensioner candidates can mix and mingle while doing the job
