Default Having to sell the XK8

I'm sorry to say, after finding out my partner is being made redundant we are having to cut down on life's luxuries, so the first thing to go is the Jag.

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Thank you for all the help in my short ownership of this wonderful car, i will come back to the Jaguar fold as soon as finances allow. I think i've priced it fairly, but please let me know if you have any advice.

Sorry you have to give up on it so soon. It's a great looking coupe.

BTW: This listing was at the bottom of your listing page. You gotta read the last lines -- a question for the seller, I guess.

Very sorry to hear that. From all the work you've been doing on the car, there was clearly no hint of this happening.

I was scanning ads in Autotrader yesterday just to see what values were doing and you've got it priced right. The comprehensive list of recent work should attract buyers who know what to look for.

Good luck with the sale. I hope things turnaround and you're soon back with another Jaguar.

Graham

Sorry to hear of your problems.
You might get a smile by following oldjaglover's ebay listing
(very literate chap by the looks of it)

Words fail me.

Well, its failed to sell at auction with a starting price of £3800! So if its worth that little then i might as well keep it. I'm not sure if its just because people haven't got any spare cash at the moment, or whether its just not worth as much in others eyes as it is to me.

I mean where else could you get a properly sorted, rear wheel drive, 300bhp, V8 powered sports coupé for less than £4k?

Oh well, I'll get some use out of it for the time being, then maybe have another go later in the year.

Sorry to hear the news. The economic situation seems to be getting worse here in France, too. Petrol prices displayed on every forecourt are a constant reminder to people that things are not good.

I would have thought £4-4500 was a fair price for your car, but as you say time are hard and, of course, as soon as you slap a For Sale sign on anything its value drops.

I saw your auction at the original £4750 and thought you might have to drop as far as £4K but even 'webuyanycar' would probably offer something approaching your revised price.

It's not the purchase price but the reputation for expensive things that can go wrong with Jaguars and the running costs likely to be putting people off in these uncertain times.

Better to declare SORN than sell at below £3800.

At least you get to spend more time here.

Very nice Jag. You might have been better of not mentioning anything to do with "rust" or floorpan replacement. Why get them thinking about it at all...especially if it has been taken care of 6 years ago with no return.

Actually Graham, a little bit of me is quite pleased!

IF it is worth less than £4k, then, in a way, i can better justify keeping it.

Thanks for all the nice words everyone.

I had three people ask specifically about rust on the underside, so i had assumed that it was a common issue that serious buyers would know about. You could be right.

The trouble i find with ebay, is that so many time wasters will nit pick upon collection without having seen the car and paperwork before entering a bid.

I probably could have done some better photos too, i didn't even wax it before taking the pictures.

It's difficult to know how to play it. Do you list the problem areas and the work done to come over as an experienced and careful owner or does this have the opposite effect of alerting buyers to things they weren't even aware of in the first place.

From the number who arrive at the forum after buying a vehicle with issues, it appears the second approach is the more successful for less than scrupulous sellers.
