Headlight bulb replacement

Headlight bulb replacement
I have a 1998 XK8 and I found the DIY about how to replace the bulbs in a 1997 XK8 that really helped me figure out what to do, but I still have 2 questions
1. How do you get the wire clips off?
2. What is the filter in the drivers side area for and how do you move it? you can't get the cover out with it there.
I guess it would work best If I put the car in the air and removed the wheels?
I am replacing the 55watt bulbs with 100watt bright white bulbs. I have already done the fog lights and they work GREAT!!!!
I have read several articles that say the 100watt bright white bulbs work like HIDs, just alot cheaper.

Where did you get the 100 watt bulbs? I have HID main beams, but I'd like to do that to my fogs.
I recently bought new HID bulbs for my car because they were seeming weak. A pair was $30 on eBay. They haven't showed up yet, and I can't wait. When I'm sitting at a stop light and a car pulls up behind me I can see a shadow of my car on the ground in front of me, which means their lights are brighter than mine.
