Default Headlight washer

My LH side headlight washer spat out one of the nozzles so it now gushes water all over the bonnet (hood). XKR 2001

How do you get the washer to pop out? so that I can replace the nozzle assuming thats the problem. I assume this can be done without taking the headlight out.

I've checked all the threads but no one actually describes how to get them to just pop out? Do you just pull them, if so how as the glass looks like it will break or pop off if you do that.

I may just remove the 30amp fuse as I live in CA so rain is like 3 times a year and my car is never out when it rains LOL

Thanks
Simon

I don't have the headlight washers on my car, but if I did, I would definitely pull the fuse and de-activate them. Most who have them consider them to be a) worthless, and b) a pain in the butt.

Another example of over engineering by Jaguar. I put the powerwashers in the same catagory as the articulating cup holder, power headrests, interior mirror mount (and mirror) and oil cooler.

Simon,

Its clipped into the headlamp housing:

XK8 - Headlamp Washer.pdf

Removing the fuse seems the simplest option.

Its a headlight out job, or at least released so you can tilt it up

There's a big thread about that washer, can't remember who was asking, and pursuing the same repair. First thing that comes to mind is the max headrom (sp) profile avatar...but I could be high on something. I'd search the forum for you, but i'm getting a little woozy

Simon,

SORRY - I posted the wrong attachment earlier.

It should have been 'XK8 - Headlamp Washer.PDF'. Here's the right one.

XK8 - Headlamp Washer.pdf

It has the removal procedure and an illustration of the washer unit fixings.

Are headlamp washers separately switched on the 4.0 cars?

Mine are automatic. The first time the screen wash/wipe button is pressed and every sixth press thereafter. There isn't an option to omit the headlamp wash.

Shame they didn't concentrate on solving the moisture inside the headlamps before working on squirting more on the outside. Drilling a hole in the side as a TSB smacks of desparation and still doesn't cure it.

Wow this is an emotional issue LOL OK going to take the headlight out and have a look to see whats up. Only doing this cos you guys find this such an emotional issue + have nothing else broken on the car at the moment.

Simon,

The Parts Manual shows the nozzles aren't available from Jaguar as a separate component:

Headlight washer-xk8-headlamp-washer.jpg

The Powerwash Jet (item 1 in the attached JPG) is also listed as 'left' and 'right' under different part numbers.

Had a look on eBay and the few Jets listed are in the £30 - £60 range which suggests the cost from Jaguar will not come under the heading of 'reasonable'.

Simon;

I love the MacGyver fix with the eye liner pen.

What's next, her pantyhose for an emergency fan belt?

Mike junior;

What do you need a heater for in El Paso?

Maybe two days a year?

Two feet of snow here and the heater works fine, even with the top down.

The headlamp washers are brilliant for getting the snow and salt off of them.

cheers,

jj

Shall we assume from step #7 on page 2 of the referenced pdf that the entire headlight housing assembly can be withdrawn rearward into the open fender area? I have wanted to remove mine to clean up the interior of the lens and housing.
