Default Headlight Washer Cover

Have you ever been going down the road when you see a sign that says uneven road surface? Well I was driving down the road, made a left turn saw no sign and drove over a seam in the road (transition) between the old and new road surface that just about knocked my eyeteeth out. Well this morning I check what I could and saw no visible damage with the exception of the headlight washer cover on the driver’s side is missing. Is this a part that can be acquired independently?

They aren't cheap, but yes you can. Jag wants about $40-$45 for them.

Not to hijack this thread but do you have a front license plate bracket for a 2000 XK8? I went to british parts dot com but can't find anything and I'm not a wholesale dealer.

For parts identification purposes, Left side is your left as you are sitting in the vehicle looking forwards.

I also posted elsewhere but the problem I have is that I lost the little shiny cover on the driver's side during my last servicing of the car about a month ago. I suspect it fell off when the mechanic was going through the standard checkup items.

Anyway I bought a new one and tried fitting to the nozzle but when the nozzle moves back in the cover pops off. It seems to me that the nozzle is moving back in too far--any way to adjust this?

Doug,
I did not look for an adjustment when I was fooling around with my cover so I am unable to help. I do know that when I installed it the first time I was not impressed with the fit. I think I used something to wedge it in tighter and I would NOT use glue…..

I had one I took off my 97 and could not get it back on, did not fit well, loose so I glued it on. As I recall, that was 2009, it stayed on firmly and worked fine.

Well now it is a moot point since while futzing around with the stupid thing the plastic bits on the front to the nozzle broke--again cursed by cheap lousy plastic parts!!!

Anyway now I have to choose what to do. Apparently you cannot get just the cheap plastic piece on the front of the nozzle so I will have to buy the entire powerwash assembly. Then I wonder how hard this is to remove and install?

Otherwise I can envision a makeshift repair consisting of gluing a small piece of dowel or something on the front of the nozzle and having the other end glued into the socket on the powerwash cover piece.

I wonder how many jags with this option even get used because one they don't know about it or don't know how to make it work or hate that it just leaves streaks of water on your clean car anyways.

What I found out after repainting my car was when installing these covers you need to be able to hold the washer pump by the stem that your attaching the cover to. If you try to push on it from the front without holding it, it doesn't seat all the way. It's a real pain in the A__. I disconnected mine because just like BRGJAG stated it throws water all over your clean car.

That is whataii would do with mine. I would pull the arm out and hold it and try to snap the glass back on but it seemed loose and wobbled so I just super glued the F to the end of the arm socket, never had another issue.

This is what I tried and when the stem moved back into the position it seemed that it was moving back just a bit too far so the cover popped off. And then when I tried again and again (by the way it is a pita to pull the stem out) I pulled too hard and dislodged the whole damn mount so the powerwash piece is now dangling in the space below the headlight. I guess the cheapest way out would be to forget about the whole thing and just glue the cover where it sits on the headlight. However, I will likely buy a new powerwash although it is a shame that you cannot just buy the front plastic nozzle piece that mounts to the stem. By the way there has to be a way to get the stem extended automatically without having to manually pull it out against the spring action (that would make sense anyway).

Nevertheless the expense of the powerwash assembly itself is not all that bad but I expect the labor to get this stupid thing in will be $200 since you have to remove the headlight which is probably a simple task for a mechanic but likely a pita for diy.

Default Clarification

I am attaching a photo to show what I am talking about with this idiotic part. You can see that there is the lousy plastic bit that actually clips onto the stem and this is what ends up breaking apart. I was wondering if these can be sourced separately? But then again you would have to go through the hassle of removing the headlight to get to this assembly so I suppose buying a complete new powerwash makes sense.
