Default Heated windscreen

I have owned my XK8 for three years now and during that time my heated windscreen (windshield) has not worked properly. All I get is four narrow vertical clear strips. Unlike the rear screen (which works perfectly) the elements appear to be located within the laminated screen and should not be easily damaged. Clearly, the screen is getting power as evidenced by the four clear strips, so I can only assume that it is a fault in the screen which will only be cured by a new screen ................. unless anyone knows otherwise!

I had a heated screen in my last 2005 XK8 but my XK doesn't have one fitted. Could have done with it on a few mornings recently.

The front screen is laminated with the heating element embedded whereas the rear is on the inner surface of the tempered screen.

If you look very closely at the front screen, you can see the fine wires running vertically. The entire area of these should heat and clear.

It has separate left and right elements but Jaguar have them switched together on the XK8.

Mine does the same thing. If I get the screen replaced, I'm assuming the whole screen will then clear of a cold morning.

Is there a possibility that a new windscreen fitted by the likes of Autoglass won't have the elements at all?

Best wishes, Colin

The OE manufacturer is Triplex Safety Glass Co Ltd.

You'll get a fright at the cost of a replacement.

so whatever you do don't get a cracked screen so that you get it replaced under your insurance!

Absolutely not!

This happened to Frog shortly after he got his XKR 4.2-S.

He was upset at the €120 excess on his policy but relieved at not having to pay the full €700 for the new heated windscreen.

Another complication with replacement windscreens is making sure the black masking and cutouts for the sensors on the back of the rearview mirror are the right ones for the vehicle spec.
