Default Hello

Newbie here. Frankly, I've joined to follow this forum and educate myself before I maybe start shopping for an open XK8 at some indeterminate point in the future. (something I wish I had done with some other automotive purchases)

My Jaguar experiences include:

The hood flipping up on my Dad's XK-150 at 110MPH plus. It bent the top bows down between us as it folded over the windshield frame and slowed us to <70 in an instant. We left the remains in a filling station and completed our (school-visit) trip with those cam covers pointing the way, gleaming in the sun.

Watching my Dad, a surgeon in his element, adjusting the valves on that car, a clean table beside it in the driveway, covered with shims.

Finding my roomie's XK-E difficult to drive b/c "my feets too big" for the pedals. A real shame, that.

Helping a friend work on his XJ.

Will

Check out the stickies at the top of the main page. The DIY thread has two links of things to look for when buying these cars. Very useful info.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome. And you will feel right at home in an XK8/XKR from 1996-2006. They made sure to keep the details of the XKE intact, right down to the tiny foot box. Doesn't bother me, but some people with EEE size feet find it difficult to manage.

Agreed. There's simply not enough room in the driver's floorboard of my wife's 2006 XK8 for me to stow my size 15 feet, especially when I'm driving with shoes on as opposed to barefoot. I don't have that problem in my 2005 S-Type....

I should add a few things:

I'm a long term Porsche guy, since 356's. I've been an occasional Jaguar driver and long an admirer of Mr. Lyons' children.

I'm aging, I hope gracefully, and my need for the last ounce of performance has submitted to my desire for elegance and comfort. I wish I still had my Mom's DS21 Pallas Cabriolet, but such an auto is beyond my means and would be inadequate for even my lowered performance needs.

When I said "we left the remains" after that over-the-ton adventure, I should have clarified I meant the remains of the hood. We picked it up on the way home. I remember we were able to lower the top, so it either worked with bent bows or we straightened them by hand.
