If it is the balancer you are talking about it is a press fit. Try a little heat.

will do, thanks. I was cranking pretty hard on the puller and it did'nt budge the pulley. Put some lubricant in there and letting it sit overnight.

I have the Jaguar Harmonic Balancer removal tool you can use. I can mail it out to you, and you can mail it back. It is the hardened steel remover with the hardened roller bearing bolt. It makes the job a whole lot easier, and safer. Let me know if you would like me to send the tool on out.

Thanks so much for the kind offer CJ, I will be removing the front cover to expose the tensioners , guides, and chains. If I need to replace all, would you happen to have the tools for the replacement job? TIA, Bruce

Yes, I have the Jaguar timing chain tools, complete set, crank setting peg, two cam lockdowns, chain tensioner tool, and pair of chain spacers. Let me know if you need to borrow them.

Smile Tensioners and guides

CJ.... Could you take a look and decipher if I need to replace the tensioners? If it looks like I need to replace upper/lower & guides I would like to take you up on your offer of the tools. I really don't think i need to replace the chains in that they are not loose or show signs of abuse. On this note, were you able to get a deal on a "kit" including all neccessary items to put her back together including gaskets, crank seal etc? Thanks in advance again. [I found a set on ebay but it included the chains ($650.00) i just don't think i need them, but am willing to go the extra mile if I'm encouraged to do so]

Those secondaries definitely need to be changed. The primaries should be fine.

It looks as if I need to replace the oil pickup tube as well. I found a new one for $35 plus shipping...what do you think?

(I appreciate you "holding my hand" on this)

Thanks for the quick reply X. I'll have to wait to hear back from CJ before I get started on the removal. Does it look like the primaries were replaced?

Those look like the original primary chain tensioners and guides...but those components don't implode like the secondary tensioners do. That being said, since you've already got the timing cover off, I would go ahead and install new primary chain tensioners and guides. You've already done 50% of the work (dismantling), and once finished you can drive with confidence, knowing that all have been replaced.

When you remove the original tensioners, you might find that parts of them are broken off and missing. Since you're replacing your oil pick-up tube, you might find bits of broken plastic tensioner in the screen of the old pick-up tube, and in the oil pan. Make sure to them them all out.

appreciate it Coupe! Will do all the 4 guides and all 4 tensioners. I plan on buying a new oil pan as well but they are pretty proud of them (parts geeks 125.00 w/ gasket) or should i buy a used on ebay?

Personally, I wouldn't buy an oil pan from anyone but Jaguar. If the fit is anything less than 100% perfect, you'll be seeping oil onto your garage floor.

I use Gaudin Jag out of Las Vegas for good online pricing...CLICK HERE for your part...they've got the official Jag part for $ 105 plus shipping.

I've also had pretty good luck getting my local dealer to match...or get close to matching...the online prices I get from Gaudin.

Good luck.

.

with that mileage, and since it's all apart, you should replace the chains, guides, and tensioners.

took off the oil pan to change it out. It was dented pretty bad and wanted to replace it. There were chunks from the pick-up tube that must have been broken off when the previuos owner went four wheeling. I think they must get pretty brittle being plastic.

Mr. CJ - I sure would love to borrow the tools if you would'nt mind. I'm expecting the parts next week and would like to get started right away. Please let me know if you would rather not loan them out so I can make other arrangements.
TIA,
Bruce
