Default Help Identifying Wires under dash RESOLVED

I am installing a remote starter unit in my 1999 XK8 and (believe I) have everything done EXCEPT the brake wire. It calls for a negative twelve volt [12V(-)] connection and recommends pulling it off the brake switch up under the dash at the fascia, at the connector just next to the steering column as it passes through the firewall. I found the connector in that location and it contains four (4) wires (WO, US, PG, WU). The the wiring diagrams appears to show only two wires (WO=White/Orange and US=Blue/Slate) for the brake switch (figure 4.4 in the wiring manual). The other two wires (a PG=Purple/Green and WU=White/Blue) appear to be for the "Brake Cancel Switch" (from what I can tell) which ties into the cruise control switch (and engine control module) (figure 4.5 in the wiring manual). I assume this is the trigger to shut the cruise control off when the brake is depressed. I need a 12V(-) signal when the brake is depressed to cancel the remote starter. I am considering EITHER using the US=Blue/Slate wire or the PG=Purple/Green wire for that purpose. Does anyone know if either or both wires will work for that purpose? It would seem logical that the cruise control cancel wire would work as it's for the same purpose. Both options (US or PG) appear to provide a negative input upon pressing the brake (per the wiring diagrams). I suppose confirming that with a voltmeter is the answer. However, any insight is appreciated.

The cruise control switch provides power that passes through the brake switch. So you would have to have the cruise control on to use that source. The purple/green is not a good choice.

RJ, I hadn't even considered that. I'm sure glad I asked as I was leaning that way. That makes perfect sense though. Thanks for the heads up.

Use the Blue/Slate wire for the brake switch (12-). The White/Orange is ignition switched ground.

That's what I ended up doing last night. Thanks for the confirmation. Now that I've finalized the wiring (except the hood switch, which I still need to hook up) I'm ready to put the dash and steering column back together and start testing/programming the remote starter. Thanks for all your help.

Absolutely, I followed Adam699's advise and went with the Excalibur RS-230-DP remote starter (less than $99 on ebay). His installation advise is here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...llation-70093/ However, I spent a huge amount of time pouring over wiring diagrams and trying to figure everything out. I am ironing out the last few issues now. When I finally get everything finalized I will try to summarize what I learned in the process.
