Default Help programming remote fob

I just received a brand new fob, but I'm having trouble with the instructions supplied by the eBay seller (taken from the FAQ here):

1. Insert ignition key into the ignition switch barrel, but do not turn it..
2. Hold the turn signal switch stalk in the "flash to pass" postion and turn the ignition on with the key (while holding the turn signal switch in "flash to pass").
3. Then repeatedly flash the lights with the turn signal stalk until a confirmation chirp is heard (usually five or six flashes).
4. After hearing the chirp, depress the button on the remote transmitter being programmed. If the remote was accepted, there will be another confirmation chirp.
5. Turn off the ignition and test the remote.

Steps 1-3 are ok and I hear the chirps, but step 4 is unclear. There are 4 buttons on the remote, which one do I depress, and do I hold it down or just blip it once?

TIA

Either 'lock' or 'unlock' works - it doesn't matter which. Just press it the same way as you normally would when using a fob.

Thanks for your quick reply, Graham. I have tried about 10 times, but can't get the new remote to work.

I have doubled checked and the part number is identical to my original remote, so either the new one is faulty, or it was supplied without a battery inside?? How might I check this?

...or else I'm thick and doing something wrong

You'll have the same style of UK 433 MHz fob as me - LJE2610BC ?

To replace the battery:

1. remove the spring ring
2. put a coin or thin screwdriver in the rectangular slot in the end the ring goes through
3. twist gently to separate the two halves

The battery is a single CR2032

Thanks, Graham. I checked the battery and it's giving 3.5V, so I don't think it's that.

I'll try the programming again tomorrow. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Do you have another remote other than the new one ?
If so try programming that remote first ,
if that fails , try programming with both doors closed ,

Hope this helps ,

Nik

Ah ha, I did wonder if there was a door-closed thing... I'll try tomorrow. Too tired tonight. Thanks

This remote fob programming is closer to practising the black arts than science. Tried reprogramming mine again to check the sequence. Same procedure as you've listed down to Step 4.

I was redoing two remotes. Had to operate them a total of 5 times to get the confirmation chirp - pressed the first one twice and the second one three times.

Relieved to find they both work again!

Default My fob doesn't work

I've gone thru the steps you show, with a replaced fob...batteries are good (mine takes 2), local auto parts says fob is generating a signal, the car beeps to tell me it's ready to program...but I get nothing! What do I do next?? I'm very frustrated with this. Bob

Do both fob part numbers match exactly ?

Tried again this morning, but to no avail. My 'old' remote reprogrammes fine, but there's no response whatsoever from the new one, as if the battery was dead (which it isn't). I can only assume the new remote is faulty. I have contacted the seller.

Thanks for your help

YoungRobertL...you are in the wrong forum...you have an XJ8, and this is an XK8 forum. The procedure for an XJ8 is different. This is the XJ8 procedure:

Jaguar X300 (XJ6, XJ8 etc)
Procedure
1. Open the boot lid and drivers door, and switch on the ignition. Press central locking switch (in the centre console) 5 times. The siren will chirp to indicate it has entered learning mode.
2. Press the lock button of the remote, the system will chirp to confirm it has received the remote.
3. To program further remotes, press the central locking switch once. The system will chirp twice for remote number two, then press the lock button of the remote as above.
4. Wait for 30 seconds for the system to close and chirp twice.

Jaguar X300 (Alternative Method)
Procedure
1. Open the boot lid and drivers door, and switch on the ignition. Press valet button (in the centre console) 5 times.
