Default Help with xk8 coupe purchase!!

I'm in negotiations to purchase a 2003 XK8 coupe with 79k miles. The car is located at Private Collections Motors in Costa mesa, CA . I had a friend from L.A. look at the car for me and he says it's Ireally nice as indicated in the pix and says it drives well. He owns luxury cars but he's a mechanical novice... so I want some Jaguar aficionados input.

Anyone here ever done business with them? Lives near the dealership? I'm getting an used vehicle inspection on Thursday by an indy. I'm certainly having the wheels checked because knowledge gained here about the newer 19" XK wheels(according to the ad) needing adapters.

Thanks for any advice/input.

Ikon

Hi Ikon,

Sadly I cannot advise but the Jaguar looks FAB!

Very hard to spot any flaws at all and looks well kept!
Hang on, I am sure one the more knowledgeable guys will be along soon!

Good Luck, WOW! Stu

It does look nice, however, the drivers side rear quarter looks to be lower than the passenger side rear quarter.

It may be a trick of the photo or light but if it were me, I would be looking at that with a tape measure.

Only one set of keys, maybe you can negotiate the cost of a spare and programming?

I'm offering significantly below$13.8k... I'm not paying full retail on a car. Stuart that's why I post here, we have the BEST JAG FORUM!!! Jimbov I'll have indy check the panels... and Norri I've hit them with every thing including the kitchen sink!!!! LOL.

A fair price at a dealer is about $12k give or take a few hundred. If we can't settle by Thursday/Friday after the inspection I'm out and on to another.

I spotted a few of small things:

-Missing the rubber mat in the coin tray
-Clouded rear trunk button
-Front plate frame probably drilled into overriders, and does not look like it is hanging level.

. . . and the paint on that RR quarter wants to reflect a little darker than the rest of the car.

Note that a second key, fob and programming is going to be more than $400.

Can't see the brakes in those pictures, but the probably need done at that mileage and always a good negotiating point.

The age and mileage are such that suspension bushings are probably not too far off in the future. Something to keep on mind.

The wheels are from an X150, which means it has wheel adapters to make up for the differnt bolt pattern. Watch out for rubbing because they sit out too far, strange tire wear or oddities in the handling.

And why no pics of the engine bay? Other cars on their site have glamor shots of the engine, but why not this one?

The car looks beautiful, probably priced in XKR territory, so be firm in your negotiations. Good luck.

I live there- let me know if you want me to swing buy and take a look.

It's about 2 miles from me, I'd be happy to go!

The more I look at the driver's side rear quarter panel I see the lighting differences as well. certainly will add this to the list of concerns for the inspection. as well as the other things mentioned above...

On the engine pix I have some of those and all looks good( my friend took a couple for me). if any one know's of XK8 2003 -2005 preferably a coupe please let me know asap. I will take a convertible XK8... XJR or VDP 2004-2006 white, silver, black or tan

Geez that was a fast transaction--maybe Ikon is the one that got it?

On a tangential track I was driving down the main boulevard near me a few days ago and passed an auto reseller that has been there forever specializing in mainly sports cars. Prominently displayed on a raised platform out front was an absolutely pristine looking white XK-E coupe. So I visited their website to see what something like that goes for and it was $99,995. Oh well, guess I will have to pass for now.

Maybe he was talking about you-

They seemed like they didn't know that it was sold and there isn't hundreds of cars or anything- more like 30. So perhaps he was so sure you were going to buy it he told me it was sold?

It's sold.... Kam told me "money is king".... how unprofessional was that!!! He should've apologized for the car being sold without them contracting me and tried to offer another vehicle or locate another XK8.
