Default Help, xk8 not starting

Hi all, I have a 1998 XK8 conv with a jaguar fitted steel lined engine. I have owned the car for 4 years with trouble free motoring. I had a problem with my windscreen washers not working. After some investigation I realised the water feed pipe had come unattached to the T piece. As I could not remove windscreen wipers to try and gain access ( boy I tried ), I asked my local mobile mechanic to pop round and sort it. He did this and popped keys back through letterbox.

Whats the problem you ask!

I came home and my Cat would not start. This has never happened before. I rang the mechanic, who explained that he never started car, just simply popped bonnet, removed Scutle and re-attached water hoses, turned on ignition to check washers, locked-up and left.

I had hoped he had started car and stopped it quickly (ie flooding the plugs/pistons) but he says no. Could he have flooded car by simply leaving ignition on for too long without starting?

I have run battery flat twice trying to start her, with throttle down fully. I have removed fuel pump fuse and turned over to try and burn off fuel. I have checked all fuses and the fuel cut-off button.

I thought key chip may be knackered but done the test with car locked and tried to start through open window, turned over with no alarm sounding. Don't know what to do. Maybe Easy-Start?

Please help!! sun is out but my jag isn't

Thanks for any help

Thanks for reply. I think checking the Basics is great advice. The mechanic came back and after 15-20 mins found that a relay in the engine bay fuse box had come out very slightly, just enough to stop car starting.

Thanks again

Short and sweet, glad you're fixed up.
