How can I convert 00' XKR to XK8?
Hey everyone,
I currently have a 2000 XKR that I am trying to find a way to downgrade to a standard aspirated engine. I am considering giving the car to my son, but as of now, it is much too powerful. For hismaturity in driving, the car would be too dangerous for him.Is there anyway to turn off the supercharger, or install a regulator, so that the car is not too overwhelming?

Here's some ideas for you...

I'd think very seriously about turning that car over to a new driver. You may want to look like a hero to your son but thinkabout the consequences and how you'll feel if, God forbid, he's in an accident or worse.
How about a little 4 cyl Lime Green Chevette? That got me around just fine when I started driving, LOL!!!!

I understand your hesitation on giving the car you your son as is.
Not really feasible to change the running gear of your vehicle. Best thing is to send the boy on a driving course run by your local police agency. There he will learn full control of the car at all speeds. Also will have it drummed into his head that going fast is not safest way to drive.
I wish there was somethng better I could tell you.

Keep the R for 4 years. Get him in a corolla or similar and tell him if he can stay out of trouble for the 4 years, the car will be his. Let him drive it with you along periodically so he can get used to it.
Tough descision. I was not provided a vehicle in my youth. I had to work to buy my first car. My parents didn't believe in it. I will get my daughter her first car, which will probably be something that I can make sure she cannot get in too much trouble in.
I have 13 years to wait for that though...lol. I do not envy your choices desert, but I will be in your shoes soon.

My, we are all so serious about this one.
As a 16 year old, and taking full advantage of the 87 horsepower at my disposal, I crested an off-camber right hander with gravel in the apex at about 70 MPH. Go Speed Racer, Go!Every surface of my Dad's Datsun 510 bounced off either a wall or a tree, mine were unscathed.
My daugher wrecked three of my XJ6's, the last one an '89 with a tree limb crushing in the RH A pillar and taking out the windshield. It's only bent metal, and I'm glad she has been protected by lots of it. Trixi is now a much better driver in an intact Toyota with airbags.
FJT's suggestion to hold the car in reserve as a motivational tool for graduation into the world of safe driving is a great idea. Best wisheswith whatever you decide.
