Default How do I decode changes in part numbers? Alloy wheels.

I have a question about figuring out changes in part numbers but couldn't locate info in the General Tech Help.

I have a MY 2000 XK8 (VIN: A01464) and am looking for a couple of OEM replacements for the alloy wheels in the 7-Flute style.

The electronic parts catalog says I need part number MJA6118AB for the front wheels and part MJA6118BB for the back, but all I'm finding for sale have been superseded by MJA6118AC and MJA6118BC respectively. The only difference in the part number is the last character is now a C.

My question is is there a way to know if the change is substantive? Why the change? I want the replacement wheels to look cohesive alongside the originals.

With Jaguar P/N's, a change in suffix usually indicates a new batch or a change in material specification / supplier rather than a design change.

I think your biggest worry is likely to be a noticeable difference in the appearance of the surface finish between fifteen year old used and the new rims.
