Default How is the engine removed?

Can the engine come out the top or do you have to drop the whole front subframe adn take it out the bottom?

Is there a procedure for this? I can't seem to find it in JTIS.

Thanks for any help.

I know where to find engine removal in JTIS but despite searching your post and your forum user profile, I cannot find a Model or Year .........

Engine removal is only covered in JTIS for 2003MY onwards.

Look in Powertrain - Engine - Removal.

Top- there are bolt holes in the rear of the heads for hooks and there are "loops" on the front of the heads for the front.

When we did my rescue project. Put the hood in service position. removed radiator and fans. out she came. Its a 14 hour book time or close to it for engine swap.

I marked place and removed the hood, brought the engine out the front. I like the idea of not having to remove the hood, but if you bring the trans out with it (may as well to re-do the A-drum) the front is the only way.

Sounds easy to remove? Regular tools work to do this? No air compressor stuff for me. I have always tooled around doing the LSx swap on one of these if I got another Xk8 97-02.

A universal and long extensions go a long way to help remove the bellhousing bolts and exhaust manifold to CAT nuts. Other than that, a regular tool set works.
