If my car looked like this, I wouldn't lust after a DB9

A toned down Zeemax kit with modified Detroit wheels. The car still feels fat to me:

needs a rear wing that stands off the boot a bit - not a simple lip - to help balance the now smallish rear cabin area

Quote: actually, that's one of my pet peeves about most new car designs; I prefer the longer flowing lines of a good sized trunk/boot on a car. to me the rear of the DB9 (and also the current generation XK's) more resembles a hatchback than a coupe.

I think what really bothers me more than the overall shape is the location of the rear wheels relative to the rear bumper; it looks too assymetrical compared to the distance between the front bumper and the front wheels.
I agree 100%; I like the older style ('99 to '06) XKs better than the new XKs and the DB9. Don't get be wrong, they are nice cars but they're hatchbacks (yuck!). Our XKs have class and dignity; if I wanted a hatchback, I but a Toyota.

I'm just amazed by Keith's and Frog's Photoshop skills. I have Photoshop on my computer, but I can barely figure out how to correct colors.

Nobody ever mention the boot cover?
I hear lots of discussion about proportion of the X100-gen XK8, but nobody seems to ever mentioned the stupid boot/tonneau cover.

I still fail to understand why that cover exist - considering Ford can engineer a proper automated cover for a dad-gum Mustang ..... Maybe the mechanism for an automated cover would prevent carriage of 2 set of clubs ... ?

Well, they were released in the '97 MY, so they must have started producing them in '96, which means they were being designed and engineered in '93-'94. That is technology from about 18 or so years ago.

As is obvious, they pretty much stuck with that same basic design for quite a while, so I guess such a change would require a lot more engineering and design, as well as changes to the manufacturing plant.

You are also probably right that such a cover would have taken up a log more room in the car as well, but I suspect it was more of a cost factor for the redesign required after the initial development.

Nice of you to say so, Rev, but Keith is in a different league to me. I am in awe at his skills, and as for his designs, I'll take this one. I love it! In fact, I think I'll give it a go with my trusty angle grinder this afternoon

Thanks guys, you flatter me I use Photoshop quite a bit on some of my side design jobs, so I've picked up a few tricks to do things quickly over the years.
